New Year Support

It's great to see so many people already thinking about their New Year Resolutions. Thinking about what they want from the year ahead and, importantly, what their part in making it happen is going to be. It seems that everyone is feeling really positive about 2011 and it's great to see.

With all this planning now is a good time to start thinking about what support you need and (sorry if this may seem a little bit negative) the things that may go wrong and the problems that you may face. Having support planned is a vital part of ensuring that everything goes according to plan.

The more you can be honest with yourself and predict the little hiccups you may face then the more likely you are to be prepared for them, to be ready to prevent them from getting in your way. Grab a pen and paper now and start listing the barriers that you may come up against. Don't forget to add yourself in there (lets face it your determination may well waiver, you are only human!)

When you've listed them all you can start thinking about the things that you can do to avoid them becoming reality. Do you need reminders hidden in the fridge and cupboards? Would getting rid of all the ash trays help? Do you need a support buddy?

Buddies can be a great help but take care to set up the arrangement in the best way to suit you. Through my work I've realised that the support needed can vary greatly. You may find it really helpful to have someone to be accountable to, to report in to on a regular basis alternatively this type of support may drive you mad and push you to give up all the sooner just for the peace and quiet. So the support you may need might be to meet up with others who are working on their resolutions and take positive actions but without the pressure to report in. You may prefer the support of friends and family or it may be easier for you to work with a group of strangers. Take the time to think about what support YOU need and then make sure it is in place to make 2011 your best year yet.

If you would like some help working out what support you need then please give me a call on 01908 368607 for a free support options coaching session.

Have a great Year everyone!

I'm using the "buddy" system to help me with a few changes. This works for me, as my buddy is there when I need him and is incredibly supportive without being judgemental or offering advice, as such. Choosing your buddy carefully is certainly key to success if you favour this route. The right person is not always the obvious person.
